About QUEST

Many European cities are facing challenges when it comes to set up and implement truly sustainable mobility policies and measures.  QUEST is a Quality Management tool developed to help small and medium-sized cities to set up and further develop their sustainable mobility policies and actions with the assistance of an external expert – the QUEST Auditor. QUEST supports European cities in making real progress towards a more sustainable urban transport system, and helps them to find solutions for achieving the desired goals. The QUEST methodology used in this process is described in more detail in section QUEST AUDIT.

Based on the results of the QUEST audit and self assessment, a tailor made ACTION PLAN is recommended for each city.  The focus of the improvement program is directly linked to the present state of urban mobility policies. Cities that complete QUEST successfully will receive a QUEST Certificate which recognises their efforts in sustainable urban mobility planning.

Nearly 50 cities from all over Europe have been involved in QUEST, demonstrating that there is much demand for advice on urban mobility planning.

We are ready to offer our expertise and support to your city!

If your city is interested to join the QUEST family, please contact us and we will find the right auditor for you! An appropriate auditor will be assigned depending on the local language of the city and the urban transport areas in which it seeks improvement. Read more about the benefits of joining QUEST.

QUEST is also looking for new auditors to join the QUEST team of experts. More information how to apply can be found here.

PUMAS project: “Planning Sustainable regional-Urban Mobility in the Alpine Space

The PUMAS project, “Planning Sustainable regional-Urban Mobility in the Alpine Space” is a project financed by the Alpine Space Programme and coordinated by the City of Venice. It runs from July 2012 to June 2015.   Alpine Space cities face common urban mobility challenges which call for innovative and cost-effective mobility solutions. The Alpine Space is a region with continued growth, including increased passenger and freight transport. It suffers both from large volumes of cross-Alpine and seasonal traffic as well as sprawl from its cities to the countryside.   The PUMAS project offers solutions to these challenges. It coordinates the development of the Sustainable regional-Urban Mobility Planning (SUMP) concept which the EC strongly promotes and, in its 2011 Transport White Paper, even suggests as a mandatory approach.  more

QUEST is still looking for new auditors!

During the QUEST project, the auditors have been active in nearly 50 European cities from 14 European countries. To expand the QUEST network and implement the QUEST tool in further cities, we are looking for interested individuals in countries not already covered by QUEST-partners, who have knowledge and experience in the field of sustainable mobility, to join the QUEST team of auditors.   The essential part of the QUEST tool is to work together with city authorities and other stakeholders to achieve improvements towards a more sustainable transport system. The QUEST auditor has a crucial role in organizing and moderating the process of developing the QUEST Action Plan in a participatory manner.   more

Successful UK/Ireland seminar held 16 May 2013

The QUEST national seminar for UK/Ireland was held jointly with CIVINET on 16 May 2013 in Birmingham. The audience of 30 comprised mainly local/integrated transport authority staff who deliver local/regional transport plans and sustainable transport projects. The QUEST Scientific Board, Government Department for Transport and ACT TravelWise were also represented.   Sessions included excellent case studies of two UK cities - Blackburn with Darwen and Inverness - that participated in the QUEST process, breakout groups on challenges in delivering local sustainable transport projects and a discussion with an expert panel on future use of external auditing of SUMPs.  more
